New Great Gatsby trailer ups the glamour

Cape Town - Warner Bros have released a new full-length trailer for Australian director Baz Luhrmann's sumptuous take on F Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel The Great Gatsby.

Starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Long Island millionaire playboy Jay Gatsby, the film is the second feature film adaptation of the novel following the 1974 film starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow and written by Francis Ford Coppola.

The new trailer gives focuse on the mystery that is Jay Gatsby, whose lavish and exciting lifestyle masks a darker past, as he introduces the story's narrator Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) to his high society connections.

But Gatsby's world is turned upside down when Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan), his long lost love, makes an appearance.

Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan also stars as the morally dubious Meyer Wolfsheim, a business associate of Gatsby's who was based on real-life New York mobster Arnold Rothstein.

This second trailer again makes use of incongruous pop music, featuring Kanye and Jay-Z's No Church In The Wild and Florence + the Machine's Bedroom Hymns.

The film is set for release in May 2013, after seeing its original December 2012 release date pushed back and effectively putting it out of contention for the 2013 Oscars.

Warner Bros believe the movie would play better in the summer, given the 3D adaptation of Fitzgerald's novel and good reactions to early sneak peeks.
