Cameron Crowe ("Jerry Maguire," "Almost Famous") announced via his personal website, Theuncool.com, that shooting has begun on the new film, which has been in the works for several years.
The filmmaker remains cryptic regarding the plot of the feature, formerly known under the working title "Deep Tiki." The initial screenplay, which has apparently undergone significant rewrites, followed a military officer overseeing a satellite launch in Hawaii who runs into obstacles from the superstitious local population and from a somewhat rebellious Air Force pilot. Ben Stiller and Reese Witherspoon were briefly affiliated with the project as early as 2008.
Danny McBride and Alec Baldwin are also said to be taking part in the film, on which production began on September 26. The director promised to share additional photos from the set "very soon."
